Infection Control Policy

Good infection prevention and control (IPC) is essential to ensure that people who use primary care services receive safe and effective care. We are committed to providing effective IPC procedures to minimise the risk of infection and to ensure the safety of patients, visitors and staff alike.

Our Infection control compliance standards:

1. We have systems in place to manage and monitor the prevention and control of infection

2. We provide and maintain a clean and appropriate environment in managed premises which facilitates the prevention and control of infections

3. We ensure appropriate antimicrobial use to optimise patient outcomes and to reduce the risk of adverse events and antimicrobial resistance

4. We provide suitable, accurate information on infections to service users, their visitors and any person concerned with providing further support or nursing/medical care in a timely fashion

5. We ensure the prompt identification of people who have, or are at risk of developing, an infection so that they receive timely and appropriate treatment to reduce the risk of transmitting infection to other people

6. We have systems in place to ensure that all staff (including contractors and volunteers) are aware of and discharge their responsibilities in the process of preventing and controlling infection

7. We have systems in place to ensure that all staff have access to occupational health services and have been immunised according to PHE Green Book.

8. We provide or secure adequate isolation facilities.

9. We secure adequate access to laboratory support as appropriate

10. We have and adhere to policies that are designed for the individual’s care and provider organisations that will help to prevent and control infections

11. We have systems in place to manage the occupational health needs and obligations of staff in relation to infection
